THE AUSTRALIAN NAVY

SPEECH BY LORD DUDLEY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, April 11. At the opening of the Pioneers' Club, Lord Dudley, referring to the navy, declared that the interests of Australia and the Motherland were bound together, and for many years to come the best way Australia could help herself was by helping the Old Country. The Empire understood the impelling sentiment behind the appointment of its own navy was the national Australian sentiment. The proper, legitimate, and best way of defeating the enemy was to seek him out. Australia would make the greatest mistake if she imagined that her shores could best be protected by retaining her ships in Australian waters. Therefore nothing should hinder the fullest co-operation with other parts of the Empire. He would like to see the Imperialistic spirit predominate.
