It has transpired that Mr. Williamson, who was murdered in Assam, recently ordered the Alters to relinquish to the Miri tribesmen, forests which they had seized, and to return to the hills. The massacre' caused intense excitement in Upper Assam, and it is believed will have a most harmful effect on Dofflas and other tribes. Light horse and volunteers in the Assam Valley are mobilising, twelve hundred strong assembling at Sadiya.
