STRANDED IN THE ISLANDS
THE BOVERIC ON A REEF. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. The Knight of St. George, which arrived here to-day, brought details ol the stranding of the steamer Boveric at Nukualofa. The Boveric, when entering Nukualofa on March. 29 under easy steam in fine weather, grounded on the end of a reef at the entrance to the narrows at Bahia. Efforts to get her off at high water failed. The Knight of j St. George arrived on the 31st., and tried next morning to tow the Boveric off; but without success. She tried again on April 2nd, but the tow-line parted. Next morning a third unsuccessful attempt was made, and on the 3rd the Knight of St. George left for Auckland, leaving the Boveric's position unchanged. It is considered that probably a portion of the reef is penetrating the Boveric's hull, and that she will have to be considerably lightened before she can be refloated. The Knight of St. George suffered some slight damage while endeavoring to pull the. Boveric off.
