CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER
A RAROTONGAN CASE.
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Thursday. On March 12, on the plantation 01 William John Wigmorc, Raiotonga, a native named More was shot dead by a rifle. The acting-medical officer held an inquiry and found that More lost his life by a gunshot wound accidentally inflicted by Wigmore. Wigmore was' formally charged with manslaughter, and released on £IOOO bail. Subsequently statements were tendered to the registrar of the High Court by the police and persons who stated they were eyewitnesses of the occurrence and whose evidence was not given at the inquiry, their story being in conflict with the evidence given. The registrar took their sworn depositions, which the Resident Commissioner sent forward to the law authorities in New Zealand for instructions. A sad feature of the affair is that More was a friend of Wigmore's, and was spending a day at the plantation on Wigmore's invitation.
