A private corogaay has been formed o( well-known Manawntu and Hawke's Bay settlers, with a subscribed capital of £IOO,OOO, to take over the Mokau coal mines of 12,400 acres of mineral rights, and shipping interests on the Moknu river, together with the celebrated Mokau Jones estate of 46,200 acres, just acquired from the natives. The company, which has its head office at Palmerston North, is to be known as "The Mokau Coal and Estate Co., Ltd." » The company held its first meeting yesterday, when it elected Mr, Robert McNab chairman of directors. Some 26,000 acres of the land have already been cut up, and the balance of 20,000 acres will be at once surveyed, and, as soon as possible, placed on the market in small areas. The mineral and shipping resources of the Mokau district and river

will continue to be developed.
