PRICE OF PIGS
VALUE,OF COMBINATION. At a meeting of Kaupokonui Dairy Factory suppliers, held on Saturday, a discussion was opened up by Mr. Powdrell dh the pig supply and the best means of disposing of the supply so that the best prices can be obtained, says the Hawera Star. He said he bad aa offer from a Scottish buyer for all thjß ,pig 9 they could produce at 4d per lb., the purchaser taking the risk of disease. They were not in a position to accept such an offer this season, but he advised that a board be set up and that suppliers enter into an agreement to sell only through the board, which, having command of a large supply, would be able to make good terms. Mr. Poole stated tat the supplier* were now only getting 3d or 3>/id per. lb. The chairman, continuing, said that arrangements for dealing with the whole output could not be made in a hurry. He had been informed: that pigs for export had to be singed to prevent that leakage which takes place under ordinary circumstances, and they would have to arrange with a freezing company to have this done. Mr. Stevenson doubted whether 4d at the factory would pay the farmers better than the present price, as the employment of labor would entail expense, and there was also the question of delivery at the factory. The chairman replied that if they had, say 201)0 pigs to offer, they would bj in a position to bargain, and they might be able to say that they would not sell under 4%d. On the motion of Mr. McPJiillips it was resolved: "That it be a recommendation to the directors that they make full inquiries, and if they think it advisable that they call a meeting of the shareholders to further consider the matter ati a later date,"
