ALTERATION OF THE CALENDAR

APPROVED BY THE BRITISH BOARD OF TRADE.

By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 28, 10.30 p.m. Melbourne, Last Night.

The Federal Government has received a communication from the British Board of Trade, endorsing the resolutions adopted by the Associated Chambers of Commerce in favor of an alteration of the calendar.

The scheme provides, firstly, that New Year's Day be regarded as a "dies non," not to be counted as belonging to the month or week; secondly, that the present extra day in leap year be interpolated in the middle of each fourth year and treated as a "dies non"; thirdly, that the remainder of the year be divided into four quarters, each containing two months of thirty days, and one month of thirty-one days. Under this arrangement each year begins on the same day of the week. Christmas Day will also fall on the same day of the week. Fourthly, Easter to be fixed, instead of being decided according to the movable feast.
