DOG IN THE MANGER
TRADES UNION AND SEDGWICK BOYS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Early this month Mr. T. E. Sedgwick, who was instrumental in bringing a number of youths into the Dominion to take up positions on farms, addressed a meeting at Dannevirke, at which lie is reported to have said that he had interviewed the Minister of Labor, asking that a Government grant of £9 per head for passage money should be made on a further batch of young immigrants from the Old Country. Mr. Sedgwick stated there were 500 farmers here waiting for these boys. The request for the grant was refused by Mr. Millar, until the first contingent of lads had spent twelve months in the Dominion. The Wellington Trades and Labor Council has decided that a deputation shall wait on Mr. Millar, protesting against any further boys being brought out. The Council objects to State aid for these boys boys or any other indentured labor.
