FIRE BRIGADES' ASSOCIATION

THE ACCIDENT ASSOCIATION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hokitika, Last Night, The nineteenth annual meeting of the United Fire Brigade Accident Association was held here last night, Captain Sprigging (Wanganui) presiding. The report stated that in spite of numerous accident claims made and paid during the past year, a satisfactory credit balance had accrued. To an extent this might be nttributed to the reduced claims from the larger brigades. Reference is made in the report to the report of the neglect shown by the brigades in regard to the registering of new members. Four brigades had joined the society, which now has a total membership of eighty-eight brigades, making a grand total membership' of 1581, an increase 'of 62 since last meeting. The amount of the credit of the accident fund of the society amounts to £1062 7s sd. The funds of the society are reported to be well invested, £1530 being loaned on Government, borough and harbor board debentures, bearing interest at an average of 4y 2 per cent. The usual allowance of £SO was voted in connection with the death of a fireman, a former resident of Feilding. It was resolved that any officer having already filled the position of president was not eligible for selection. The election of officers resulted: President, Captain Hansen (Westport); vice-presidents, Supt. Bcllringer (New Plymouth), and Captain Rolston (Inglewood); secretary, Mr. J. J. Watts (Newmarket); treasurer, Mr. Scantlebury (Reefton); auditor, Mr. P. R. Fraser (Auckland).
