ANNUAL COMPETITIONS. SATURDAY'S RESULTS. By Telegraph.—Pregs Association. Hokitika, Last Night. The annual fire brigade competitions were commenced here yesterday, when splendid weather prevailed. Of the eleven competitions .to be held, two were got off, viz., the two-men coupling (dry), and the one-man manual events. The high-pressure borough water supply was very favorably commented upon i>y the competitors, whose general verdict was that it was admirably suited for competition work. Sixty teams competed in the coupling, and twenty-four in the manual events. Results:—

Dry Coupling.—Masterton, 38sec, 1; Dunedin South (inc pen. of 2sec) and Hokitika (lsec. penalty), equal, 30 2-ssec, 2. The tie is to be run off on Monday. Hamilton was placed fourth. Time, 40sec (including 3sec penalty); Hastings sth. 40 3-ssec (including 3sec penalty); Hillside Railway, sixth, 41 4-osec (2sec penalty); Timaru (42 l-s?cc) tied for seventh place with Auckland Railway (sec penalty). Other competitors were: Carterton 43sec, Xapier 42 2>ssec, Wanganui 43 3-ssec, Patea 43 4-5 see, Dunedin South 44sec, Dannevirke 45sec, Newmarket 40 3-ssec, Mosgiel 47 2-ssec. The standard time was reduced] from time to time as low as 42sec, and a number of the teams were "blown' out." Consequently their times were not recorded. I

The standard being reduced from time to time, the following teams were "blown out": Te Kuiti, Kaiapoi, Invevcargill, KumaVa. Waverlev, Dannevirke.
