MIS-QUOTING GOLDSMITH.

To the Editor. Sir, —I beg to cerrect a mis-quotation from Goldsmith in the article con-' tributed by "Viatur" in your issue of the 28th ult. He says, inter alia, however, like the character iri Goldsmith:— "A sofa contrived a double debt to pay, A bed by night, a sofa all the day." I should not call either a sofa or a bed "a character in Goldsmith." but let that pass. The correct lines run: "The chest contrived a double debt to pay, ! A bed by night, a chest of drawers by day." j A sofa and a bed are not too such very different articles, as those who are familiar with the domestic colonialcouch can testify! In justioc to the poet, please insert this letter.—l are, etc., AN ADMIRER OF GOLDSMITH. New Plymouth, March 1, 1911.
