STRATFORD TOWN CLERKSHIP.

To the Editor. Sir—ln your issue of Saturday last there appeared a letter signed "Borough Ratepayer" dealing with the appointment of the town clerk for Stratford. It came to me to-day that I am charged with being the writer of that letter. I would ask you through the columns of your paper to allow me to give that Btatement an' 'tmpte'tii' "•dfeWial. • •'<?' also' desire to thank those who./were so Jsiod to circularise such charges. Although' 1 may not agree individually with every member of our Borough Council, I yet consider that as a body of men they are equal to any other body of men conducting municipal matters in this Dominion, and the accusation levelled against our local institutions by your correspondent is unwarranted, unfair, and uncalled for, as events have proved, i That certain councillor's son did not get j the appointment, and so absolute certainty lias proved that prophecy a delusion and a snare. And if the councillor's son had got the position, I am sure he would have filled the position with credit and honor, and the father would not be doing his duty if he did i not try and secure his son's appoint- j ment. I know if it came my way to do j my son a good turn, I would do it quick and lively. I don't know whether the father canvassed, as I am not a councillor. I am pleased to see a local man | get it, and I am sure lie will do justice] to the position. Mr. Skoglund has been with us some years, and is highly respected, and the council, which is a reflex of the people, has seen fit to appoint him. I suppose only the prophet knew he would be appointed. Thanking you in anticipation—l am, etc, JAMES SEXTON. Stratford, February 28, 1911. -J I
