ALLEGED JAPANESE SPIES
NEW CALEDONIA STORY REVIVED. By t-iablc—Press Association—Copyright, Sydney, February 28. Watriama, a colored resident of Sydney, who claims that he is the King of the Loyalty Island, states that he has received a despatch to the effect that Japanese spies are infesting New Caledonia. On pretence of being miners, thev work at the mines for a time and then go throughout the country surveying and noting the lay of the laird. He has written to the French Consul protesting against the presence of large numbers of Japanese, and is persuaded they are a menace. He strongly urges the French Government to command the Nisol Company to deport these undesirable people. The Consul has acknowledged the receipt of the letter. Watriama is also communicating with Sir Edward Grev in reference to Britain's coming understanding with France regarding taking over the protectorate of the islands.
