NEW BISHOP OF AUCKLAND

ARCHDEACON* CROSSLEY ACCEPTS. By Telegraph.—Pre** Association. | Auckland, Last Night. After long and earnest deliberation, the Anglican Synod has decided to ask Archdeacon Crossley, of Cleelong, to accept the vacancy caused by the resignation of Bishop Xeligan. When the Synod opened this afternoon, the president announced that he had received the following cablegram from Archdeacon Crossley: "Humbly accept your call. May prayers in all churches be made for humility, courage, and grace." The stipend of the Auckland see is £IOOO per annum. A MELBOURNE TRIBUTE. A Melbourne cable received this morning states that Archdeacon Crossley was amongst the first English vicars to accept an Australian cure. He quickly established himself as a man of strong personality and a capable preacher. Archdeacon 0. T. L. Crussley, M.A. (Trinity College, Dublin), whose name is mentioned above, was ordained deacon in 1884 and priest in' 1885, In 1005 he was appointed Incumbent of All Saints, St. Kilda, Melbourne, and Archdeacon of Geelong. He is Chanlain to the Archbishop and Lecturer at St. John's College, Melbourne. Archdeacon Crossley is one of the leading men of the Anglican Church of Victoria.
