FAREWELLING THE PREMIER

BIG GATHERING AT DUNEDIN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The Garrison Hall was filled with over 1000 people to-night on the occasion of the citizens' farewell to Sir Joseph Ward, prior to his departure for the coronation and the Imperial Conference. The Mayor (Mr. T. Cole) presided, and amongst those present was the Hon. J. A. Millar. After a brief address by the Mayor, Mr. G. Ritchie, president of the Chamber of Commerce, proposed a motion extending a hearty welcome to Sir Joseph and Lady Ward on the eve of their departure for England, am: wishing the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence God-speed and success in their mission as repreentatives of the people of New Zealand at the coronation and Imperial Conference, feeling confident that on tht questions affecting the welfare of the Dominion and' in all matters making for the advancement and solidarity of the British Empire, we will be ably and faithfully represented by him. The motion was carried with acclamation. Sir Joseph Ward,' in replying, touched on the Imperial Conference, defence, immigration, and other subjects.
