BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The Council met last evening, and was attended by His Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. Tisch), Crs. Browne, Gilbert, Mannix, Clarke, West, Wilson, Buttimore, and Hartnell.

CENTRAL SCHOOL BATHS. Mr. H. Dempsey wrote stating that it was proposed to construct a swimming bath in the Central School grounds at a cost, of something over £3OO. He wanted to know on what terms the Council would grant the necessary supply of water. He asked that the Council would be as generous as possible under the circumstances. The senioi boys would do a great deal of the excavation and several parents had already expressed a wish to assist in the work. —Referred to the Works Committee. ELECTRICAL EXTENSION. Mr. Climie, consulting engineer with regard to the Council's electric light extension scheme, forwarded pencil tracing of his amended plan of forcbay. It was allowing for practically doubling the size of the previous work and provided for the retention of the present 21-inch pipes in such a manner that they could be replaced by another 60-inch diameter pipe when necessary.—Referred to the electrical engineer to confer with Mr. Climie. A PETITION. Messrs. Robertson, Petty, Ellerm (2), and Loveridge petitioned the Council to have portion of Fulford street from Mt. j Edgecombe street to Morley street opened up for traffic so that better access might be given to their properties. —The borough engineer to report. GENERAL. The Swimming Club was granted tho use of the Municipal Baths for this evening. Resolved that Mr, C. E. Bellringer be written to pointing out that the time for the erection of Jjuildings on section on Old Hospital road as extended had expired, and that he be requested to state when he intends to comply with 1 the building conditions of his lease. [ The Council cannot see its way to [ accede to the request of Mr. 0. Johnston for the extension of the electric light mains to his residence at Fitzroy. [ Resolved that the secretary of the 1.0. G.T. be notified that the Council has removed 1200 cubic yards of earth from section 942, Courtenay street and Carrington road in accordance with the original arrangement. Mr. J. D. Sole's application for a water service at Westown was referred to the Works Committee to report upon. It was decided to refer Mr. Ardcrn's request for a testimonial to His Worship the Mayor and the town clerk with power to act Resolved that Mr. Coleman be informed that the Council cannot see its way to grant permission to construct a septic tank at Mr. May's premises in Devon street. Cr. Wilson gave notice of motion as follows: "That the engineer take the levels of Hobson street south." Resolved that the abattoir manager be instructed not to kill any pigs for export unless the person for whom the pigs are killed pays the extra charge of one shilling per head, which amount would be payable to the slaughtermen.
