AUSTRALASIAN ATHLETIC TEAM. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, February 10. In connection with the Festival of Empire team, New Zealand, as holder of the heavy-weight boxing championship, is to select a representative, but failing the Dominion doing so, Hardwiek will represent Australasia. Besides the. men mentioned, Clemes (Tasmania), Lynch (New South Wales), and Barring (Victoria) will probably be available to represent Australasia if required. The team leaves on March 8. GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE ASKED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. The representatives of various sports waited on Sir Joseph Ward this afternoon with a request that the Government should give monetary assistance towards sending Home a team of New Zealand athletes to compete at the Festival of Empire. Sir Joseph Ward replied sympathetically, and asked the deputation to give full details as to the cost likely to be involved.
