The evidence against Count Delacy largely consisted of a typewritten letter in French found in Pantchenko's rooms, cryptically worked. In the light of Pantchenko's confession, the letter was construed as referring to the murder of General Butuslin. The prosecution states that the defects in the writing are traceable to Delacy's typewriter.
