BRITAIN'S DEFENCE FORCES
SPEECH BY MR. HALDAXE. >»v By Cable —Press Association-Copyright. London, February 5. Mr. Haldane, speaking in London, said: ''We have far the largest longrange oversea force in the world, and I would not risk its existence by introducing a Hew basis which would deprive us of it. According to the analogy of a century, we could certainly continue recruiting regulars on the present footing. The future of the Territorials rests with the employers." COMPULSORY TRAINING URGED. LORD CURZON'S VIEWS. London, February 5. Lord Curzon, speaking at Sheffield, denied that the National Service League advocated conscription; they favored compulsory training, the building up of the national physique, and giving people a greater voice in controlling the „destinies of the country. Of all the fantastic charges the absurdest was that national training would encourage jingoism. "Fancy," said the speaker, "jingoism in Switzerland or aggression from Norway."
