WESTPORT OOACH ACCIDENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, Saturday. It turns out that Mrs. Howarth (wife of Mr. Howarth of the Customs Depart* meat, Wellington) was seriously injured in Friday's coach accident. A thigh bone was cracked or oroken, the pelvic bone is proßiflbly fractured, and she possibly; also received internal injuries. Mr, Howarth had ribs injured. Mr. and Mrs, Howarth were on their honeymoon tour, Mrs. Bai'gent, of Nelson, was shaken. ACCIDENT ON A STEAMER.

Westport, Saturday. When the steamer Pukaki was swing* ing out the gternline slipped from the chock and struck A. Reid, the second! officer, in the small of the back. It threw him against the wharf and into the river. He was rescued and taken to the hospital, having sustained some injuries. ESCAPE FROM DROWNING. Dunedin, Last Night. The danger of venturing too far oat while surf-bathing wag exemplified in ft striking manner at Ocean Beach yesterday afternoon. Walter Tyson, about 35 years of age, was apparently engaged ill "shooting'' the breakers, when he was overcome by the strong backwash. The life-line was some little distance away, and when it was procured it was found to be tangled, involving loss of time. Fortunately a young man named Crofton Umbers was close by, and he rushed into the water and rescued Tyson. The latter was unconscious when brought ashore, and remained so for a consider able time, but he is now progressing favorably. A, CASE. Dunedin, Saturday Night. A man named Robert H&yman, aged 23, and single, was taken to the hospital this morning suffering from the effecte of poison. About 3 a.m. it was discovered that he had taken some poison* ous liquid from a bottle marked "poison." Serious results are not an* ticipated. Hayman lived at Dalmore, North East Valley. '
