BENZINE BURNING ACCIDENT

Clirittehurch, Saturday Night By an explosion of benzine which tool* place in the city this morning, two men narrowly escaped with their lives. One, S. T. Patterson, a shorthand typist, wag somewhat' severely burned, and the other, H. Kernohan, was not quite so badly burned. Both men were taken to the hospital, but Kernohan was able to go to his home after his burns were attended to. Patterson is still in the hospital, and was not well enough in the afternoon to see a reporter. The fire brigade received the alarm shortly after half-past eleven. It appears that Patterson and Kernohan were engaged in the preparation of some sort of varnish, when accidentally a lighted gas-ring that was in use fell into a tin of benzine, which instantly exploded, and enevloped the men in flaiftes. The dam« age by lire was practically confined td Patterson's office, which was severely] damaged, the contents being practically destroyed.
