BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The ordinary montnly meeting of the Inglewood Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening, when all the councillors were present. The District Health Officer wrote approving of the Council's arrangements for the deposit of rubbish. The Swimming Club wrote thanking the vouncil for granting t.iein the use i>i the baths for the sports meeting on the oth inst.
■ The headmaster of the Inglewood School applied to have tue hours for chiiuicn's swimming classes altered to 3.50 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.—Referred to (...e Baths Committer.
A report was received from the Cemetery Committee to the effect that the fence fronting the Junction road was in a most unsatisfactory condition. The posts were rotting, and the live hedge' had been spoiled by the salt spray. The one best within tiicir means was a concrete post and rail fence, to cost about £7O. To erect this the Board would require a loan of iiO from the Council. The other course was to put up a sheep-proof plain wire fence, backed by an ornamental hedge. This the committee favored—lt was eventually decided to refer the committee's report back to them for further consideration.
Cr. Gi-bljs, for the Baths Committee, reported that owing to less favorable weather conditions the support given had not been up to last season's. A swimming club had been formed, and had waited on the committee ticking for certain eoncessions for members, As the season was now so far advanced, it was deemed advisable to defer the granting of them till next season. The chin had been granted the use of the baths for their sports on the 9th inst, and when required for evening sports.—The report was adopted, and the committee was empowered to act regarding the alteration of Sunday hours. Eulogistic remarks were made on the management of affairs at the baths.
The Council will inspect the waterworks tunnel and filters on Sunday morning, the tunnel being then empty. Cr. Tarplee reported that the Fire Brigade had given a most satisfactory demonstration, and that he was well pleased with their efficiency.
The treasurer's statement showed that £1423 in rates had been collected during the month.
