SETTLEMENT REACHED.
Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting to-night the men accepted a compromise and a resolution wm carried almost unanimously expressing the men's willingness to return to work, seeing that the Union is being recognised. It is practically a foregone conclusion that the Bealey men will endorse the Otira resolution, and work will be resumed at both ends of the tunnel atl 4 a.m. to-morrow.
Christchurch, Later. A compromise was eliected on the principal point at issue—the recognition of the union. The contractors stipulated that when a dispute arises, the matter is to be first laid before them by the men, and in the event of the men being dissatisfied with the decision arrived at, then they are to have the right to call in the union, and its officials would be recognised by the contractors. Mr. Semple skted, after the conference, that he would advise the men to return to work, as the main point had been conceded.
