ARTHUR'S PASS STRIKE
PROSPECT OF SETTLEMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christclmrch, Last Night. In connection with the Arthur's Pass tunnel labor dispute, a conference was held last night between Mr, McLean and several union officials, those present being Messrs Seinple (organiser of the New Zealand Federation of Labor), Webb (president of the Federation), Armstrong (secretary of the West Coast General Laborers' Union), and Prince (local secretary of the Union). The conference, which was a private one, was held at Mr. McLean's house, and lasted for about three hours. The result as communicated to the press was that • meeting between Mr. McLean and the men is to be held to-dfty. The unionists are very hopeful of a settlement being arrived at.
