AUSTRALIAN NATIVES
PREMIERS' SPEECHES. By Cable—Press Association—-Copyright. Melbourne, January 31. Speaking at the Australian Natives' Association dinner, Mr. Fisher, Federal Prime Minister, said that it was the Government's intention to build not only small boats for the navy of Australia, but some larger vessels.
There had been some criticism of the proposed visit of members of the Federal Parliament to the Coronation, but it must be remembered that the Imperial Conference was also being held, and it was desirable that Australian representatives should be present at the gathering, which would deal with matters ot so important a nature.
Regarding legislation, the Federal Government had no intention of resting on its laurels. '
Mr. Murray, Premier of Victoria, referring to the referenda, said that the constitution was being attacked in a way that was not for the welfare of Australians. He did not want the government of millions of people concentrate*? in one body, but wanted to pee the legislation required by the various units of the Commonwealth made by those best able to perform it. Sir Thomns Carmichael. Governor of Victoria, said it took a dull Scotchman like himself a little time to realise when Australians were pulling his leg, and when he read Foster Fraser's book he becran to think that he (Foster Eraser) had not realised that either.
