SYDNEY'S LORD MAYOR.
By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright. Sydney, January 18. The City Council negatived a motion to increase the Lord Mayor's allowance from £IOOO to £ISOO. The proposal was made on the grounds that calls upon the occupant of the chair were much heavier now than in past years. A STRIKE PROPHECY. Brisbane, January 18. In connection with the trouble in the building trade, the secretary of the Builders' Laborers' Union declared that he would not be surprised if all Australia, so far as the building trades are concerned, were aflame within a week.
THE BANK OF VICTORIA. Melbourne, January 18. The yearly report of the Bank of Victoria shows the profits to be £54,097. It is proposed to pay a dividend of six per cent., to place to reserve £IO,OOO, and to carry forward £12,349.
THE PARRAMATTA HUNDRED. Sydney, January 18. The dates for rowing the Parramatta Hundred have been fixed for March 18 and 25. s
Hagney to-day lodged the first deposit for-a race for £SO a-side at the end of February or early in March.
FIRE AT ADELAIDE. Adelaide, January 18.
A fire destroyed Fischer's large saddlery in Hinnely street. The damage, amounting to £SOOO, was covered bv insurance.
STRIKE NEGOTIATIONS. Sydney, January 18. The strike at Cockle Creek works continues. Mr. Beeby will negotiate for a settlement.
