MEETING OF CABINET
SUNDRY INTERESTING "ITEMS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Wellington, Last Night At a Cabinet meeting to-day it was decided to invite competitive designs from New Zealand architects for new Parliament Buddings, the prizes to be £IOOO for first, £SOO for second, £3OO for'third, and £2OO for fourth. Designs are to be in by the end of July. Applications will be invited for the position of Director of the Geological Survey and Mining Geologist, rendereo vacant by the resignation of Dr. Bell.
Cabinet decided to authorise the Commandant of the Forces to select in the Old Country an Army Service Corps officer for service in New Zealand.
Mr. Buckley, a mechanician in the Post and Telegraph Department, is to be sent to America and England to examine the modern system of telephone construction and apparatus, in vie\v of improvements contemplated by the Post-master-General.
In consequence of the drought in Oamaru district, Cabinet has decided to offer free railage of stock from dry localities to places where food is plentiful.
Cabinet has appointed Mr. Justice Sim permanently to the Supreme Court Bench. His duties will, as in the past, be primarily as president of the Arbitration Court, but he will act as a Supreme Court judge when not engaged on industrial arbitration work.
