DROWNED WHILE BATHING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Core, Tuesday. At Waikaia on Sunday afternoon,u shearer named Maurice Constant Sclilonback was drowned while bathing in tilt Waikaia River, opposite Argyle station. He got beyond his depth, and was swept into a hole by the undercurrent. He was thirty years of age. His parents reside at Dunetfin. SHOT WHILE RABBIT-SHOOTING. Wellington, Tuesday. Leonard Shaw, a laborer, aged 23, who accidentally shot himself in the fool while rabbit shooting at Plimmerton on Christmas Day, died in the hospital today.

Ryan, who was injured on the steamer Wootton yesterday, was operated on last nigilt and is still nnconfcioMfy Nothing definite is known regarding his identity. DEATH OF A DIVER. Duncdin, Last Night. Advice was received to-day by the secretary of the Rise and Shine Dredging Company' of the sudden death of George Todd, u diver, who was working in connection with the company's No. 2 clredgc, which sank last week. Todd was making an inspection of the dredge, and after he had been down a considerable, time those on the surface realised that he gave no answer to their signals. He was then pulled up, but was found to be dead.

THE TEMUKA FATALITY. Timaru, Last Night. At the adjourned inquest on the Icmuka railway fatality, the jury returned a verdict of accidental death, no blame being attributed to anyone. The jury added a rider that from their own knowledge the crossing was very dangerous, and something should be done to make it safer. The Minister of Railways has promised to call and look into it.

ACCIDENT NEAR HAWERA. A rather serious accident befel Miss E. Howard, of Hunter road, on Saturday evening, who, while driving from her, home to the Te Roti station, was thrown out of the trap. The young lady was picked up in an unconscious condition, and removed to her home. She is suffering from concussion of the brain, and up till '12.30 yesterday (it is stated) had not regained consciousness.
