SCHOOL TEACHER'S FREAK

CUTTING A BOY'S TROUSERS.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A unique reprimand administered by a country school teacher was reported to the Education Board to-day, and a pair of damaged trousers was sent along in corroboration of the complaint. One of the boys attending the school had spilt some ink on the floor and desks during tile Bible Class meeting, and had been troublesome in other ways. To more strongly emphasise on the youngster's mind the grievous sin of damaging the Board's property, the teacher took upon himself the responsibility ol damaging the boy's clothes by cutting two large pieces out of his trousers with a knife. Neither the parents nor the committee would have objected to some other form of punishment, and the father would have permitted the matter to drop had the teacher agreed to defray the cost of a new pair of garments. This, however, .lie refused to do. Members of the Board expressed astonishment of the nature of the retaliative punishment, and decided to ask the teacher to make immediate explanation, and to show cause why he should not be suspended.
