CHOLERA RIOTS
DISEASE PREFERRED TO SANITATION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 14, 11 p.m. Funchal, December 14. Cholera is spreading, and the outlook is very unsatisfactory. Serious riots occurred at Machico, owing to sanitary measures being taken by the municipality. Doctors' and chemists' houses were looted, and, prisoners released from gaol.
