ASHORE AT WANGANUI

BARQUE BUMPING THE BREAKWATER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Tuesday. The barquentine Alexa, which went ashore on the south spit last night, lies close alongside the breakwater, in a good position, in about nine feet oi water at high tide. Provided the weather improves there should be no difficulty in refloating her. The mishap was caused by a heavy westerly gale creating a strong southerly set, which swept the vessel out of the channel, alter she had safely crossed the bar, and brought her up on the outside of the south breakwater, where she took the ground. During the night she shifted a little and bumped into the breakwater, staging, displacing five piers, which will cost £2OO to replace.

Wanganui, Last Night. The Alexa is still on the beach, but is in no immediate danger.
