AGROUND AT WANGAXUI.
By Telegrapn. —rress Association. Wanganui, Last Night. As the barquentine Alexa, from Sydney, with a cargo of coal, was taking the bar to-night she went ashore on the soutli spit just behind the south mole. There was a strong wind and rough sea at the time.
NIGHT NURSES' HOURS.
Napier, Last Night,
At a meeting of the Hawke's Bay Hospital and Charitable Aid Board today, a committee previously appointed to enquire into the allegations made by one of the night nurses as to the long hours and not sufficient time allowed for meals or rest, reported that the evidence of the sisters on night duty' showed the charges to be groundless, that the hours were not too long, and that adequate provision was made for rest, refreshment, and comfort during the night hours. All these statements were corroborated'by Miss McLean, As-sistant-Inspector of Hospitals, who had personally investigated the conditions of night work. The report of the committee was unanimously adopted by the board.
BIG GUN PRACTICE.
Christchurch, Last Night,
At five o'clock this morning the members of the New Zealand Garrison Artillery Territorials (Lyttelton Navals), at present in camp at Fort Jervois, carried out service practice (five rounds) from each of the B.L. guns. .The practice was in every way a success, every shot being recorded as a hit, and in one series six men registered five rounds in the record time of 3min Bsee.
