G. Frost was elected representative to the conference, with Rev. F. W. Boys as substitute. The Synod resolved to defer consideration of the establishment of a theological college for one year; that the conference be requested to bring under the notice of the Government the inadequate representation of the Methodist Church in the list of chaplains of the volunteer force. It was unanimously resolved to congratulte the Government upon giving the people the right to vote on national prohibition, and also for the better protection of the native race " against the sale of liquor. The Synod protested emphatically against the retention of the three-fifths majority, and demanded that breweries within no-license areas should be subject to'the people's vote; that the period after which a successful national prohibition vote will operate be reduced from four to two years. The Synod strongly urged Methodists to endeavour to carry no-license, seeing that a remarkable diminution of crime had taken place in districts where nolicense had been tried.
