Sir Joseph Ward: replied that he had had to suffer personal attacks for a long time past, but would continue to. do what he considered his duty to the country, in spite of these, or those who made them. They were un-British tactics, such as he had personally never resorted to, and never would. He dwelt on the great importance of the issues to come before the Imperial Conference, and thanked the delegation, for whom Mr. J. M. Johnson (as chairman of the League) was spokesman, for their expressions of confidence. Three cheers for Sir Joseph Ward, and three for Lady Ward concluded the proceedings.
