TRAMS FOR PALMERSTON NORTH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. I Palmerston N., Last Night. The Borough Council last evening decided to place a loan proposal before the ■ratepayers in March next to provide an electric tram service for Palmerston, at an estimated cost of £9OOO per mile. FIRE BRIGADE EQUIPMENT. Wanganui, Last Night.
The Wanganui volunteer fire brigade to-diay received from Messrs. Merryweather and Sons, of London, a new ihotor fire reel. The cost is very near £IOOO. The new engine combines a 42-horse-power motor with a chemical •fire extinguishing apparatus, and hose and ladders. In addition to a cylinder containing 35 gallons of fire extinguishing liquid, there are two small portable extinguishers carried. The hose reel will carry 1000 feet, but more can be stowed elsewhere. The ladders are 30 feet long, and are carried overhead. Everything is fitted out most conveiently, and thoroughly well made. The machine is the first to be imported into the Dominion.
