KEEPING THE STREETS IN ORDER.

To the Editor. Sir,—One would imagine that after a deluge of rain all night our streets would be washed clean enough for anyone, but it seems such is not the case, as recently I passed through the town between 5 and 6 a.m. after such a night, and Devon-street seemed quite ':ie;in, but, to my surprise, there were <t couple of men and the horse-sweeper "doing their level best to find something for the time and money spent. The combined results of their labor seemed to be two or three shovelfuls in Egmont-street and about a barrow-load from Devon-street. 1 am told this is not by any means an isolated case under s".ch circumstances. If so, it is no worn sr the wages-sheet of the borough lonm<j so large with so little to show for it.—l am, etc.. RATEPAYER.
