DEFENCE OF AUSTRALIA
SCOPE OP ARBITRATION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Perth, November 28. Speaking at the Parliamentary banquet to the officers of the destroyers, the Minister for Defence said that there were some questions fin which they could not agree to arbitrate. Were the people of the Commonwealth prepared to arbitrate with Asiatics on the question of a white Australia? If they were not prepared to arbitrate they must be prepared to fight for it. He believed Australians were prepared to accept the extra taxation necessary to provide proper defence. Whatever advice Admiral Sir Reginald Henderson gave regarding defence, the Government would act on it whole heartedly. They had to look further afield than the mere defence of Australia, and must be prepared to defend the flag and all it represented.
