GYMNASTIC CARNIVAL. The New Plymouth United Gymnasium Club held a full dress rehearsal in the Theatre Royal last night, and among the leading items was Master Philpott's hand-balancing and walking—a performance that would do credit to any professional. The electric club-swinging by Mr. Lints, the instructor, with full mechanical effects by Mr. Little, was also a very attractive item, and one that should be fully appreciated to-night. The Club has been assiduously practising lately, and the pyramids and other novel displays are just about perfect. Special mention must be made of the performing bears, in horizontal and parallel bars, and ground work. The music will be given by the full Whiteley orchestra. The mirth-provoking clown and dummy are really good, the "business" being undertaken by Messrs. Harvey Burr and A. Mclsaac.
