SWIMMER AS AN "AD." By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, November 19. The State Cabinet agreed to five £250 towards a presentation to Beaurepaire, the swimmer, on the grounds that he is a good advertisement for Victoria.
COSTLY COAL-LUMPING. Sydney, November 19. Many coal lumpers refuse to accept the agreement made by the executive. They declined to work last night, and placarded some ships with a demand for two shillings an hour overtime. The majority, however, worked, apparently content.
FIRE INSURANCE. Sydney, November 19. Underwriters mostly support the Insurance Commissioners' report, especially the recommendation for fuller enquiries into fires. One states that more inquests would decrease fires by 50 per cent.
KILLED BY A TRAIN. Adelaide, November 19. Two women, whose names are unknown, were run over and killed by a suburban train near Micham. They were standing near the line at a crossing when the train approached. One attempted to cross, and the other tried to stop her. Both were struck.
