A SURPRISE STRIKE

UNION LEADERS IGNORED. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Received 16, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, November 15. The coal lumpers sprang a sudden surprise to-night, when the whole of the men engaged around Port Jackson refused to work overtime or before six in the morning. The action was taken without knowledge that the officials of the Union were about to sirn a three years' agreement providing for increased rates for overtime, regarding which negotiations hava been proceeding for some time. Several colliers are unable to discharge, but it is hope,! that the stoppage will be brief. Possibly a settlement will be reached to-morrow.
