The Australasian amateur mile championship race was won by Thompson, of Sydney, by a length, in 2min 18 2-osec., and the five-m\jles championship by Schneider, of Sydney, by three lengths, in 12min 57 1-osec.
PLASTERERS ON STRIKE. Received 14, 1.8 a.m. Melbourne, November 13. The plasterers on strike refused the employers' offer to increase wages by sixpence a day in place of their demand for sixteen pence a day increase. WHARF LABORERS' WAGES. Received 14, 1.8 a.m. Melbourne, November 13. A conference has been arranged for the end of the month between the Whart Laborers and Federated Shipowners, to discuss the former's demand for increased wages. In the meantime the wharf laborers will continue to work at Is 2d an hour, with Is 9d overtime rate.
