The Chronicle's Milan correspondent reports that the Austro-Hungarian and Bavarian Governments have lodged an objection against the imposition of the Pope's Anti-Modernist creed within their respective dominions, and upon the university professors and ecclesiastics holding State offiees. Bavaria further declines to ratify the papal mandate, ordering Catholic professors to submit to proposed lectures and to a preliminary censorship of anti-modernist officials, appointed by the Vatican. THE PERSIAN EMBROGLIO. Received 13, 5.5 p.m. St. Petersburg, November 12. The Novoe Vremya foreshadows a convention providing that from the junction of the Bagdad-Northern, Persian railways are hereafter to be constructed under Russian auspices. The Novoe Vremya fears that German goods will thereby en ter Persia to the detriment of Russia.
A LYNCHING INCIDENT. Reecived 13, 5.5 p.m. New York, November 12. The Mexican Government intends conducting an independent investigation of the Texas lynching incident. Washington announces the receipt of Mexico's profound regret at the violence against Americans, and has promised to punish the offenders.
CANADA'S POSTAL DEVELOPMENT. Received 13, 5.5 p.m. London, November 12. During the last fiscal year 408 new post offices were opened in Canada. The increase in the number of letters carried was 42 millions. The extension of the rural mail deliveries is steadily encroaching on the Postmaster-General's surplus.
CENSORSHIP OF PLAYS. Reecived 13. 5.5 p.m. London, November 12. The new Advisory Board of the Censorship of Plays includes Mr. Murray Carson. Sir Squire Bancroft, K. 8., and Mr. John Hare.
A STRIKE SETTLED. Received 14, 12.10 a.m. New York, October 1". The strike of drivers and expressmer. in New York has been settled, and work will be resumed on Monday.
FATAL COLLISION. Received 14. 12.10 a.m. New York, November 13. In a train and street-car collision at Kalamazoo, Michigan, seven were killed.
A LYNCHING POSSIBLE. Received 14, 12.10 a.m. New York, November 13. Police-Chief Temple was shot dead at Anadark, Oklahoma. His assailant was a Mexican, who escaped, but the townspeople are chasing him, and he will probably be lynched.
