RECORD EARTHQUAKE.

Sydney, November 11. The officer in charge of the observatory reports that Wednesday's earth tremors lasted from 4.7 p.m. till 8 p.m. The tremors were very numerous. Tht» principal portion of the disturbance commenced at 4.14, when for four minutes the pendulum was swung quite beyond the limits of the sensitised paper. After the lapse of a few minutes more large waves up to 6% milliamplitude were recorded. The centre of the disturbance was probably within two thousand miles of Sydney. The disturbance was undoubtedly a great submarine one. Early on Wednesday morning a small but pronounced earthquake was recorded.
Adelaide Observatory reports a similar earthquake, far the largest ever recorded there.
A RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Melbourne, November 11. A train on the Dimbola line knocked a trolley with three men over a bridge. All were slightly injured.
IMMIGRANTS FOR VICTORIA. Melbourne, November 11. As the result of the mission of Messrs. McKenzie and Mead to England recently, nearly 2000 settlers are expected before May next.
WANTED—POPULATION. Sydney, November 11. A deputation of the British Immigration League urged upon Mr. MeGowen action to encourage immigration. The Premier, without committing himself, declared that no one was more anxious to settle people in the interior of the State than the Government.
