It was announced at a meeting of the Women's Social Political L'nion at Albert Hall, Mrs. Pankliurst presiding, that £9OOO had been collected in subscriptions for the war-chest, including £SOOO from a non-party sympathiser. WAR OFFICE TENDERS. London, November 10. The War office is inivting tenders, to close on April 19, for a year's supply of frozen mutton and beef for Gibraltar, from July 1. THE STATE'S HEAVY TOLL. London, November 10. At the meeting of Noake's Brewery Co., the chairman stated that of £54,785, the company's earnings, the State takes £31,759. In 1897 the Statements totalled 34 per cent.; to-day they were 57 per cent. A CHARGE OF ESPIONAGE. London, November 10. A true bill was returned against Helm for espionage at Portsmouth. BRITISH OFFICERS AND BRAINS. London, November 10. General French, in replying to the toast of the Army at the Lord Mayor's banquet, said that Colonel Gadke's charge against British officers that they did not think was a calumny. Such statements reflected on German militarists' views.
