THE GOVERNOR IN CHRISTCHURCH. By Telegraph.—Press Associa>tion. Christchurch, Last Night. His Excellency the Governor, Lady Islington and suite attended the Victoria League's garden party at Te Koraka, the residence of Mr. Arthur E. G. Rhodes, this afternoon. The function was largely attended. PETONE NAVALS. Wellington, Yesterday. The Petone Navals this morning indulged in big gun shooting in the shape of "battle practice," good results being achieved. During the camp the come pany has fired 80 rounds, the • time taken being 34 minutes, the results indicating first-class efficiency, 93 per cent, of hits having been recorded. THEFT ON THE MANUKA. Wellington, Yesterday. Victor Hugo Read, sculleryman on the Manuka, for theft of £3 as belonging to another member of the crew, was sentenced to a month's imprisonment. RACECOURSE UNDESIRABLES. ' Wellington, Yesterday. In a Magistrate's Court case lately the magistrate held that a racing club was not entitled to exclude anyone from the racecourse without proving that such person was an undesirable. The club did not try to prove defendant was undesirable, and the case was dismissed. To-day, before Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice, and Justices Cooper and Chapman, the club appealed. The Court held that the magistrate waa wrong. All he !had to decide was whether the man was a trespasser or not.
