DEATH ABOARD A BOAT
A PECULIAR AFFAIR. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchuroh, Last Night. A death occurred on board the ferry steamer Mokoia early this morning while the vessel was on her way from Wellington to Lyttelton. A saloon passenger named Julia Stace, 44 years of age, boil onging to Pahautanui/near Wellington, who had been committed at Wellington yesterday to the Ashbourne Hall Mental Hospital, Dunedin, joined the Mokoia at Wellington last night in charge of her brother and married sister. She had been in charge of a nurse, who put her to bed on board the vessel about 7 p.m., and administered a sleeping draught before leaving her in charge of her sister, who occupied the same cabin. The nurse did not accompany her patient, who passed a quiet night, but her sister found at about G o'clock this morning that she had died evidently not long before, as the body was still warm. An inquest was opened this afternoon, but kuljourned for the production of an essential exhibit.
