DISTRICT NEWS.

KORITO. (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Friday evening last a concert and dance was held in the schoolroom in aid of the school grounds improvement fund, and proved a signal success. The weather was perfect and the schoolroom crowded. l\lr. G. Keast, chairman of the school committee, presided. An excellent programme of nearly thirty items was submitted. They were well rendered and much appreciated by till. During the evening we were favored with a couple of songs from Mrs. Brovi. of Junction road, which were well rendered, Miss Maud Smith, of New Plymouth, also gave a recitation and a --010 in splendid style. The local school children and friends did first rate with their recitations, readings, dialogues, part songs, etc. The committee is very grateful to Mr. W. Cooper, who kindly lent his splendid piano, which contributed materially to the success of the evening. After the concert the schoolroom was cleared for dancing, which was kept up till the early hours of the morning. 1\» following is the programme:—Chairman's remarks; recitation. "Greedy Ned," school children: dialogue. "Just Like Me," Lena Belk and Fred Belk: solo, "In the Land whore the Angels are/' Maud Smith; solo, "Alone." Miss .'•'race Herbert; recitation. "The Way of the World," Arthur Bolk; round. "Hark! hark! the Cry of Fire." school girls; reading, "A Gentleman," Maud Smith; gramophone selections. Mr. .lames: recitation, "A Dog and a Bee." Lawriel Mulloy and Beatrice Keast; son. ''The Valley by the Sea." Mrs. Brown; reading. "A Boy's Essay on Girls," Freda Keast; action song, "Dolly, Dolly." school I girls; dialogue, "Xo Trouble Wanted." I Dorothy Mulloy, Lucy Mulloy and Ruby Herbert; pianoforte solo, "The Abyssinian Expedition," Miss Grace Herbert; recitation. "The Remorseful Cakes." Ida Williams; reading,"Courtingunder Difficulties," Dorothy Mulloy: action song, "Fairyland," school girls; recitation, "The Rose Maidens," Beatrice Keast; gramophone selections. Mr. James; reading, "Buying a Cow," Mrs. Keast; song. "The Tin Gee-gee." Mrs. Brown; ''God Save the K'l'g." ill - . C. Warren, who has been absent from the district for about seven months on an extended trip to the Old Country and America, returned home last week looking A!. I. hear the Salvation Army intend to. give a rally with their Inglewood Brass Band on Friday evening next. hut. whether in the church or schoolroom has not been announced.
