N.Z. WINE
AND THE LICENSING ACT. , By Telegrapii—rress Association. Hastings, Last Night. The Fruitgrowers' Conference resolved that the Government be urged to exempt New Zealand wine from the operation of the Licensing Act and favorably consider the \yine industry, inasmuch as the Government had encouraged the people to invest capital in the growing of grapeni and the production of wine. The conference also expressed the opinion that a greater consumption of the pure juice of the grape would reduce the amount of drunkenness in the Dominion. A resolution was passed protesting against the small duty imposed on Soutu African wine, and urging that the duty be raised to ss, the same as on other imported wines.
