NEW LAKE STEAMER

TO BE BUILT AT DUNEDIN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. John McGregor and Co., Otago foundry, have been notified that they have secured the contract for the construction of a new steamer for the Lake Wa'katipu ser;vice. Tne vessel will be erected in the firm's yard at Dunedin, and" then dismantled and railed to Kingston, and after being re-erected, launched there. The order for plates, angles and raw material will be sent Home almost immediately. The vessel will be of steel, about 250 tons, with two sets of triple-expansion engines, capable oi developing ll&il-h.p., and a maximum speed of I<s knots. She will be capable of carrying from HKM to 1500 passengers. It is expected that the vessel will be ready for commission in a little over a year from the signing of the coii tract.
