THE VETO CONFERENCE. By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright Received 13, 9.20 p.m. London, October 13. The Veto C(.:'.r'er,ence again sat for two hours. IF THE CONFERENCE FAILS. London, October 12. Mr. F. E. Smith, M.P., says that if the Veto Conference has failed it was not due to the unwillingness of the Unionists to make reasonable concessions. If the note of battle is sounded there could not be a time when Unionists had a clearer cause of quarrel. It would be a bad day for the Conseravtives if the door of the House of Commons were banged in the face of the workingmen. ALL ROUND DEVOLUTION. CONTINUATION OF THE TRUCE. Received October 14, L a.m. London, October 13. The Daily News states there is strong reason for thinking that the Veto Conference is discussing all-round devolution, and that no solution, agreeable to all sides, is possible without a general handling of the entire legislative machine. This implies a period of preparation, suggesting a continuation of the truce throughout the next summer, and legislation of a constitutional character afterwards, to be ready in the autumn. The Times states it is thought, in well informed circles, that if the leaders propose an arrangement between the parties, the Government will withdraw its Parliament Bill and retain office throughout mi.
